Announcing the HUBChallenge

Published in HUB Projects, HUBChallenge by hub | 0 comments

Begining 2008, HUB will post a weekly image challenge for its members (non-members may also send in entries if you wish to contact [at] hubontheweb.com).

Here are some of the rules:

1. The challenge will be announced every Saturday.

2. Last date for submission will be midnight on the following Saturday.

3. Since this is a “photography” challenge and not a “graphic design” challenge, images may be touched up within acceptable darkroom parameters (exposure, crop, toning etc) but not “manipulated ” in imaging software.

4. Size of image: 450 px on the widest side and 72dpi.

5. IMPORTANT: Having fun in making the challenge images is VERY important.

I happened to notice this young boy with the T-shirt having ‘Sinner’ printed on it. I just couldn’t decide, why he was tagged so.
The photograph was taken at the ‘Sunburn festival’ at Candolim.

Harmony

In the true spirit of the festive times, the small roadside place of worship in Panaji, accomodates not just an idol and an image for Hindu and Catholic believers, but seems to celebrate both Diwali and Christmas.
I had seen an idol at the place, but on Dec 25, at 1 a.m, I noticed the well lit stars from far, so I went closer only to find the above and discover the true spirit of harmony!!

While walking on the beach during a short trip, this sapling caught my attention.
It meant more than just a green bit in an otherwise  sandy stretch. It symbolises hope and more than that growing in difficult conditions.

Life Beyond Print Photojournalism

photojournalism_future.jpg

I sit before my newest baby and wonder – what does the future hold? That’s a tough one. Don’t we all wish we knew?

The winds of change are sweeping across the photojournalism world and the concept of a photojournalist is re-shaping, even as I write this. Experiments are already well under way in press rooms of far-thinking newspapers, headed by the visions of hardcore photojournalists.

Flying Solo

Self portraits can be fun since you have no photographer that makes you feel uncomfortable or embarassed when you try out some expressions. Also, with the digitalia we’ve got access to these days its brilliantly simple. In fact id reccomend anyone whos camera-phobic to find themselves a (digital!) camera, a tripod (a tallish stool or stack of boxes) and just shoot themselves in the head! (yes, i never tire of the pun on “shoot”..)

IFFI Extravaganza

(Above) The Old GMC building, at Panaji, Goa, was specially illuminated for the 38th International Film Festival of India.

IFFI was the mantra of the day for the last few weeks. Besides watching films, there was ample scope for capturing some good stuff.
